Knitting directly into shape, tailored to fit
Pratima Tailoring brings garment construction and custom tailoring together under one roof, making pullovers, cardigans, jerseys, and waistcoats with careful attention to fit and form.
Method
Cut-and-sew versus knitting into shape
Cut-and-sew garments begin as flat cloth that is cut into panels and then joined with seams. Knitting directly into shape builds the garment's silhouette as the fabric forms, so the body, sleeves, and neckline are constructed in the structure itself rather than assembled afterwards.
Crochet follows the same principle. Loop structure governs how the piece stretches, recovers, and holds its shape, so our workshop studies that behaviour alongside classic tailoring techniques for cutting and finishing.
Workshop standards
Fitting, seams, and materials handled with care
Each piece is measured and planned with the client during fitting, so adjustments are made before the garment is finished. We reinforce seams where a knit needs stable structure, and we handle yarns and cloth to keep their shape and finish intact.
Direct collaboration between client and maker runs from the first measurement to the final fitting. To discuss a garment or arrange a consultation, reach out through the contact page, where our email and address are listed.
